Chin Augmentation

Bring the chin into balance with the nose, jawline and neck — with an implant, sliding genioplasty or injectable filler.

Why the chin matters

The chin is a foundation of facial balance for both men and women — a strong feature in men and a point of harmony in women. A small or receding chin can make the nose look bigger and heighten the appearance of a double chin with poor jaw-neck definition; a well-proportioned chin makes the nose appear smaller and the whole profile more balanced.

Augmentation can move the chin forward, place a biocompatible implant, or use injectable fillers such as Radiesse. If a double chin is present, it can be addressed at the same time with submental liposuction or a face and neck lift.

How it is done

Implant surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia with sedation (general if combined with rhinoplasty) as a day surgery. A hidden incision inside the mouth creates a carefully dissected pocket — work that demands a surgeon expert in avoiding critical nerves and vessels — where the implant is positioned and secured. The incision closes with dissolving sutures and external tape.

Recovery

Rest the first day, with light activity after. Dressings come off and work resumes at about one week. Avoid heavy lifting, impact or bumping the chin for two weeks. Bruising resolves within a week, major swelling within two weeks, and minor swelling settles over the following months.
